The quick check
Dial *#06# on the phone. If an EID number appears, the phone supports eSIM.
In the settings
- iPhone: Settings, then Cellular (or Mobile Data). An option to add an eSIM means it is supported.
- Android: Settings, then Network or Connections, then SIM manager. Look for an option to add an eSIM.
The trap: locked phones
A phone locked to its carrier may refuse any other eSIM, even if the hardware supports it. Travellers who bought their phone on a contract should check with their carrier before leaving.
